Is bleeding on probing, another contradiction for periodontists?
Aspirin prevents inflammation. Aspirin promotes bleeding on probing. Bleeding on probing is a common guideline on measuring inflammation and how healthy the gums are. Something is wrong. David DiBenedetto, DMD, author of "Insider's guide to gum disease, orthodontics and dentistry. What is not taught in dental school."... more »

tooth growing in underneath last lower left molar
Hello I have a friend, aged 59, who recently lost the lower left rear-most molar, apparently due to another tooth that is more or less partly underneath, but somewhat to the rear of where the original molar was - this extra tooth is still not visible, but a ridge is starting to protrude on the inside of the gums about 1/4... more »

Biotene gel
The instructions for the paste and for the rinse say to spit it out. The instructions for the gel don't say. It has a good flavor to me. Should I spit out the gel?

Ping: stormin moron
Look dude, no matter how slow the 'smd' group may seem to you, the real dds' do still lurk this group. Your advice is equally as valuable as Keith P. tetracycline advantage
Two weeks ago I saw an 82 yr old, someone I haven't seen in over 4 years, for a check up. He came in with a horrific gum condition. His gums bleed so much that I could not accurately probe him. He had very little plaque on his teeth. A full mouth series of x-rays were taken. Tooth #24 was very loose so I extracted it on fear that he... more »

Root Canal or not?
I have a gold crown on a major tooth with decay near the nerve which occasionally causes pain. I have a quote of around $2000 to fix the single tooth using root canal, buildup, adjustments, and new crown. Standard procedure that requires time and lots of money, and may last 7 years. I would like to remove the crown, drill out the decay, add buildup to... more »
