Darkness was VERY anticipated. remember Springsteen was the only
artist ever on Time and Newsweek, had a huge hit with Born to Run, and
then nada. The anticipation was large and mags like Rolling Stone,
Creem, and others had lots of press on where things stood, etc.

If you would listen to 1000 people say the word "probably" in everyday
conversation, it would be precious few who would say all three
syllables clearly.

I agree wholeheartedly with that and I am a huge Byrds (and all of its
spinoff groups) fan. There was no real connection, but sometimes the
guitar sound would make you realize what they had grown up listening
to.

And covered September Gurls in concert for years. Chilton also
produced some aborted sessions for Pleased To Meet Me and played on
