Corned Beef "Spice -n- seed" packets
Do you use/like them? The corned beef I buy usually comes with a small packet of herbs and seeds. I've used them about half the time (add to the liquide the meat is simmering in) and I think I am going to stop. They don't improve the flavor/experience in my taste, especially when I bite one of the whole seeds. (not sure what they are - mustard?)... more »

Small charcoal grill?
Grilling season is approaching, and I greatly anticipate it. I'm thinking about getting a Weber Smokey Joe. My ex-gf had one that I learned to grill on some time ago. I was always wishing that it had more capacity though (for leftovers or company). It seemed like I could only get about 5 burger patties or 6 brats on it at a time, and... more »

My Kitchen Witch
A week or so ago Andy ( I think it was) posted a picture of his kitchen 'witches' or 'faeries'. I finally got around to finding pictures of mine. Her name is Cookie and she was made for me by an artist friend. She stayed with me in the kitchen at the restaurant for years and now she's at home with me. She lost the tip of an ear somewhere along... more »

A modern-day miracle: Spam for six weeks straight in Afghanistan
And the blue-tinned wonder food continues to amaze: "An Army chef whose supply helicopter was shot down by the Taliban devised an ingenious menu to feed frontline troops for six weeks on a diet of nothing but Spam." --From the Daily Telegraph: <[link]> pavane

"Accent" (msg) and the elderly
As many of you know, I've only recently started experimenting with MSG. I have found it does not take much to enhance the flavor of food and allows less use of salt, so a lower Sodium intake for me. I'm not big on salt anyway but I really do like this stuff in VERY small amounts. As dad has gotten older (he will be 78 shortly) his sense of smell and... more »

Another Site Stealing Content From Here?
I was looking for something else and stumbled upon this. It said I had to register to go any further. Is this a new one or have I missed it. I did see a few familiar names there. This post is from -sw: <[link]> Lou

Koko's Fan-tab-u-lous lemon bars
Wow! I made these *very* lemon, lemon bars yesterday and have eaten a few, saved me some more, passed nine over the fence to my pal with two kids, and am taking well over a dozen into the Marines tomorrow. I will definately be making these again and again. The cookie-like crust has a perfect crunch, and the bars are so rich.... more »
