Girl Genius - 2010-03-10

Doesn't anyone proofread any more?
|
| |
Given the year-plus between the submission of a book and its being published (as described in detail by the profressionals here), you'd think there would be time for at least one thorough proofreading pass. I'm always surprised when I find something like the following from Asmimov's [1] _Forward the... more »

Some thoughts on _Space Caddet_
|
| |
_Space Cadet_ is (as far as I can tell) the second juvenile that Heinlein wrote, which makes it the earliest one that I've read. It has the standard ingredients: boy in late teens enters a new environment, finds he's neither as tough nor as smart as he thought, almost gives up, sticks with it, faces a serious... more »

So Much for the 21st Century...
|
| |
For many years, I carried a bound book, a record or log book, and took all my notes on the lined and numbered pages. Come the 21st century, I switched to the obviously superior technology of PDAs with handwriting recognition. Now my notes were electronic and vastly more useful... Except, almost no one makes large screen, general purpose PDAs much... more »
