  You should carefully review the terms of use, which last I looked &lt;br&gt; required that the geocoded data be used on a Google Map (which is why &lt;br&gt; we tend to keep asking for one...). &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt; -- Larry

  That is a major problem that you have to fix _before_ your map is &lt;br&gt; going to work. &lt;br&gt; You could possibly (if you understand what you are doing) use a static &lt;br&gt; xml file to get the map working (but it won&#39;t use the data in your &lt;br&gt; database. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;I think there is some discussion in the article that you are following

  But why? If the variable is needed, define it. If it isn&#39;t needed, &lt;br&gt; don&#39;t refer to it in your code. There are no undefined variables in &lt;br&gt; the example, which works. So it&#39;s an indication of a problem with the &lt;br&gt; changes that you have made. Wrapping things in if-statements does not &lt;br&gt; fix problems.

  It&#39;s not a mysql error: it&#39;s a browser error. Your XML is malformed &lt;br&gt; and contains text after the tag which closes the outer element, and &lt;br&gt; (since the error is on line 2) I guess it&#39;s something like &lt;br&gt; &amp;lt;markers /&amp;gt; &lt;br&gt; &amp;lt;marker&amp;gt;...&amp;lt;/marker&amp;gt; &lt;br&gt; &amp;lt;marker&amp;gt;...&amp;lt;/marker&amp;gt; &lt;br&gt; &amp;lt;/markers&amp;gt; &lt;br&gt; Note that the top tag is self-closing, so your XML tree is empty.

  Sounds like your xml is invalid. Do you get that message when you &lt;br&gt; point your browser at the xml? &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;If your xml is invalid, fix it. Can&#39;t give any advice on how to do &lt;br&gt; that without you putting your map somewhere live that we can see what &lt;br&gt; you are seeing. The tutorial works.   Maybe it is a PHP problem and not a google maps problem. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;Have you tried looking directly at the URL that is supposed to &lt;br&gt; generate the xml. If the browser gives errors or doesn&#39;t show your &lt;br&gt; xml, you need to fix that first (as I think it says in that &lt;br&gt; tutorial).
