I was going to have a google map too but it seems too advanced and I
was going to add on to what I'm trying to do after I get this part
done. So does that mean this tutorial is only an add on after I have

I believe you need the first column in your spreadsheet to be be a
list of numbers (1 through how ever many rows you have).

You should carefully review the terms of use, which last I looked
required that the geocoded data be used on a Google Map (which is why
we tend to keep asking for one...).

Thanks for the the response. The thing is I'm not trying to create a
map right now, I'm only trying to get a user to input their zipcode or
address with only one text box form and then there will be a list of

That is a major problem that you have to fix _before_ your map is
going to work.
You could possibly (if you understand what you are doing) use a static
xml file to get the map working (but it won't use the data in your
database.

Thanks for writing to my problem. But I set a if isset statement
because if I just copy the code and test it, it says I have an
undefined variable. Like I tried following step by step starting with
the file for phpsqlajax_genxml.php

But why? If the variable is needed, define it. If it isn't needed,
don't refer to it in your code. There are no undefined variables in
the example, which works. So it's an indication of a problem with the
changes that you have made. Wrapping things in if-statements does not
fix problems.

It's not a mysql error: it's a browser error. Your XML is malformed
and contains text after the tag which closes the outer element, and
(since the error is on line 2) I guess it's something like
<markers />
<marker>...</marker>
<marker>...</marker>
</markers>
Note that the top tag is self-closing, so your XML tree is empty.

Sounds like your xml is invalid. Do you get that message when you
point your browser at the xml?

If your xml is invalid, fix it. Can't give any advice on how to do
that without you putting your map somewhere live that we can see what
you are seeing. The tutorial works. If the exact same code doesn't

Hey, thanks for responding back again, I followed all the steps,
copied the script and changed the database to suit my needs. Also,
when I see an undefined variable I had to add a if isset statements.

Maybe it is a PHP problem and not a google maps problem.

Have you tried looking directly at the URL that is supposed to
generate the xml. If the browser gives errors or doesn't show your
xml, you need to fix that first (as I think it says in that
