I've noticed as I track a thread that all of the sudden the title gets changed. I'm not exactly sure how this happens. I'm guessing it happens when someone replies via email. If you are replying via email, please don't change the subject in the subject line, and if your replying via email make sure that it doesn't have "re:" before... more »

Comedy skit...
Hi All, Last night, while eating dinner, I had a couple of lines enter my head that I thought would make the basis for a comedy sketch. So, rather than just chuckling about them and leaving it at that (which I usually do), I decided to develop it. After about an hour and a half, this is what I came up with. Hope you enjoy it.... more »

more on shoes? Baby P
The woman supposedly in charge of Haringey child protection while Baby P was being abused and killed was Sharon Shoesmith. Today brings news that she is appealing against her dismissal. Do old shoes turn up like bad pennies? This is the UK where our dataprotection and information commissioners actual conspire to keep data and information... more »

Honest Broker... Again
I tried to get the following Letter to the Editor published by the NY Times in 2001, unsuccessfully. But some Times writers picked up on my Honest Broker opinions themselves some time later... small time plagiarism, something I've learned one has to deal with. Anyway, 8 years or so later and the point still holds, I think. Look at what';s... more »

Self Image
I seem to be reading more and more about self and self image. How about looking outwards. There is nothing wrong with a healthy ego, but imagine a world where you are the only person alive, alone in the world. Perhaps the value of interaction would then become more appreciated. You don't have to search too deeply to understand your own self, your own... more »

Oscillating between the past and contemporary.
The prolific writers Charles Dickens,Sir Conan Doyle,Shakespeare and whatnot is exquisitely intellectual in their enterprise, which,we,the contemporary humanity is revering them of their optimal repertoire. Confucius,Lao Tzu,Homer, the philosophers, had outclass us in light of ethics and morals which we hitherto assimilate them.I perceive I am... more »

Religion may not be all bad
I found the following (I've cut it down) and think it may be of interest. Self-control is critical for success in life. University of Miami professor of Psychology Michael McCullough finds that religious people have more self-control than do their less religious counterparts. These findings imply that religious people may be better at pursuing... more »

Bumblebee Down
In theory, bumblebees should not be able to fly, but they do. Because they have to. But people, no matter how smart or how skilled they might be, do not always get off the ground. We are all born with common sense, but we don't always, or often, use it. Must we drift without direction the rest of our lives? Are we doomed... more »

international economics 101
After the recent teetering-on-the-edge-of-total -economic-and-financial- meltdown couple of months, it seems appropriate to simplify matters by explaining 21 economic models using cows : SOCIALISM You have 2 cows. You give one to your neighbour. COMMUNISM You have 2 cows. The State takes both and gives you some milk.... more »
